My #IngressDR mommy mission

Last week I was called into action to complete a top-secret mission involving the new Android app Ingress and Duane Reade.  I was intrigued with the strange combination but being the thrill seeker I am I accepted (and I needed some bodywash and gift cards so I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone)

Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project: Lighthouse Mission #SpinbrushCFK

In a previous post I told you how I was participating in the Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project, Spin Into Action. I was asked to help by gathering my family, friends and co-workers to provide toothbrushes, toothpaste and other oral care items for the children in my community. I began my mission at Walmart and purchased some Spinbrushes to start off my collection of dental care items (you can check out my shopping trip  and see how I made out.) After shopping I raided my stockpile of oral care items to add to the donation.

Thank you Suffolk Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics!

After a not-so-great response from my facebook post asking for items, I decided to make some cold calls to some local dentists. After a few no I finally got a YES! Suffolk Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics was kind enough to make a donation of toothbrushes. Here you can see my little guy J2 happy to accept this generous donation.

J2 was very excited to accept the toothbrush donation.

While we were waiting J2 had to get a photo op with Spidey

Spend less so you can give more. #SpinbrushCFK

I love, love, love coupons. I cannot stress this fact enough! Coupons have been such an important part of my life since I decided to quit my outside job in order to stay at home and raise my two boys. Living on one income in a two income world has been very hard for my family but we have been doing it for almost five years now and I truly think it is because I have learned to get what my family needs (and sometimes wants) by only paying pennies on the dollar and shopping smarter.
Over the past year, I have kicked my coupon strategies up a notch and have build quite a stockpile of  personal care items. This is my favorite kind of stockpile for many reasons. The items last for years and I don’t have to worry about critters or spoilage, I never, ever, run out of items in the middle of a shower and the best reason of all….I can make large donations from it! When money is tight, it is very hard to make large donations. I know you all want to help others in need but you also want to take care of your family, right? Most veteran couponers know that when you combine a coupon plus a sale AND rewards from drugstores, you can get most personal items very cheap, free or even make a profit!  This is especially true for oral hygiene items, one of my favorite stockpile items. These items are super expensive if you buy them at full price so when there is the perfect storm of sale/coupon/reward, I buy, buy, buy!. Once my stockpile reaches a point where it is too much for my family to use, I give it away! I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to donate huge amounts of items knowing it cost me mostly time and very little money. I like to donate my stockpile to my church but will help any organization in need, especially those that cater to low income families with children.

The summer fun has begun with our first party of the season!

Summer is my favorite season and since we only get about 3 months of hot swimming weather here, I try to make the most of each day and #GrabSummerFun. My brother’s pool is fun central for our family so most of the summer parties and playdates are at his house. We like to keep our get togethers as stress free as possible so we keep the food and decor as quick and easy as we can. Who wants to spend time in the kitchen on a beautiful sunny day anyway?

J1 and J2 spend lots of time in Cousin A's pink Barbie jeep

Bailey the Beagle gives back to his animal shelter #LoveMyK9

I have been an animal lover my entire life. I grew up with dogs, fish, lizards, snakes, birds and guinea pigs so this does not come as a surprise to me. All of these animals were either my brother’s pets or family pets so I helped take care of them but they were not truly mine. As I got older I thought long and hard about what kind of dog I wanted to get and narrowed it down to a beagle. I knew I only wanted to adopt a shelter dog so the chances of getting a beagle were slim but possible. Beagles are used for hunting east of where I live so unfortunately there are a lot of backyard breeders and abandoned puppies. I did not know it at the time but I would end up with one of these backyard beagles.

Until the children came around Bailey was the star of every Christmas Card. I don't think he misses the photo sessions much
