My #IngressDR mommy mission

My #IngressDR mommy mission

Last week I was called into action to complete a top-secret mission involving the new Android app Ingress and Duane Reade.  I was intrigued with the strange combination but being the thrill seeker I am I accepted (and I needed some bodywash and gift cards so I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone)

I was given the following details for my Ingress mission. Sounds pretty serious.

A team of scientists in Europe has unearthed a mysterious energy called Exotic Matter (XM). The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. Our future is at stake. And we must choose a side.

“The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us.

“The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity. Once they have picked a side, players will have to move through the real world using their Android
device and the Ingress app to discover and tap sources of this mysterious energy. They will be able to acquire objects to aid in their quest, deploy tech to capture territory, and ally with other players to advance the cause of the Enlightened or the Resistance. The struggle is being played out globally. Players will be able to track the progress of other players around the world, plan their next steps, and communicate with others using an Intelligence map. An Investigation Board (http://www.nianticproject.com) filled with cryptic clues and secret codes awaits. The story evolves everyday. Powerful secrets and game tech are there to be unlocked. The struggle to save the planet spans the entire world. Cooperation across neighborhoods, cities, and countries will be needed to achieve the ultimate victory.

For the first time in history, the World becomes the Game!

I am not a big gamer per se but I did think the #IngressDR concept was pretty cool since it gave me  a reason to go to one of my favorite drug stores. You see, Duane Reade is a part of the mission. When you get to each Duane Reade location you need to look for the Ingress logo, signifying a meeting point.

Ah ha! Found my first clue!

While looking through your local Duane Reade for the Ingress sticker with a code, keep in mind that this area is cold (hint, hint).

Any clues in this aisle? Nope.

Found the code on the freezer, yay!

The code will allow you to collect more Exotic Matter (XM) needed to power your scanner and perform tasks, provide extra offensive and defensive inventory (resonators, weapons, shield) and possibly media objects. These codes  may be used only once, but they can be shared with your community online. Check out my google album to see how I found my code. Now that I have it I might just have to send the kids off with daddy so mommy can have some time with her new game. Think that will fly?

Want to try this fun new game out and experience it for yourself? Here are some codes to get you started!
