Taking care of us, so we can take care of them
The lazy days of summer are behind us, school has begun and with that, a completely new routine and an entire new set of responsibilities. My “babies” are growing up and now that both are in school most days, life at home has become more stressful. There are lunches to make and backpacks to fill, buses to catch, homework and projects to complete and lots extra-curricular activities. Somehow we get it all done and end up with two happy kids (most days) but I have to admit, while I am happy to do it all, I am stressed!
Since being a parent is truly a 24/7 job, I have been trying to take some time off when I can to take care of my needs. Ever hear the phrase “When mama’s not happy – nobody’s happy?” It is as true as it gets and in order for us to take the best care of our families, it is important for us to take care of ourselves (I type this as I am am fighting a nasty head cold my darling children so kindly shared with me) Read on

My “baby” J1 just entered kindergarten and with that comes a lot of changes. His “little boy” loves of firetrucks and construction toys are long gone and now he loves big boy obsessions like Angry Birds and super heros. With Halloween fast approaching I wanted to pick up a costume for my grade schooler and needed it to be special.
You see, my son never, ever liked Halloween costumes…even as a baby. Each year I would try something new: a banana, a pumpkin, a dragon, tiger, a doctor, a firefighter and each year he would wear it for a few moments then off it went. As a backup I would buy a spooky shirt just so when we went trick or treating I didn’t look like a lazy mom!
This year, since we have discovered an intense love for super heroes (I think he must have gotten this from his dad who actually worked as a comic book artist for Marvel and DC), I went online to Wholesale Costume Club and had J1 pick out his own costume. I was hoping if he picked it out on his own, he would more likely wear it on the big day. He picked out this Batman Costume and was extremely excited for it’s arrival.
When the the costume arrived several days later, I cannot even describe the joy on my son’s face. He didn’t even say anything…he just gasped and smiled. He could not get it on fast enough and as soon as it was completely on he ran to go show daddy ::sigh:: It was a bit on the large size because my son is quite tall for his age and sort of fell between sizes. I figured he would be wearing this on a regular basis long after Halloween so that was ok. The quality was very nice and I loved the details of the mask, cape, “muscle chest” and belt. J1 is not big on having things on his head and face but he didn’t seem to mind. Overall, I was extremely happy with the costume and more importantly, J1 cannot wait to be the caped crusader in a few short weeks!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Now that kids are back in school, some of you have the house to yourselves and maybe some time to work on those projects that have been put off over the summer (I know I have!) With one child in kindergarten and the other in preschool, I have been using my 3 hours of mommy time to clean out and organize all the bedrooms in the house. It is going to take some time but I am making progress each day!
As I was cleaning out my boys rooms, I started to create a pile of Crocs that did not fit my sons any more but still had plenty of life left in them. They had served both my boys well over the years and I just felt bad tossing them. I set them aside, determined to find some sort of use for them, maybe a craft of some sort, or something for my garden? While researching online, I learned that you can donate your Crocs to people who need shoes in impoverished nations around the world. How cool is that! Read entire post here
